Caring for a Flower Arrangement

Arrangements designed in florist foam require a slightly different approach than a standard vase. Follow these steps to keep the foam hydrated and your Joycies blooms looking fresh.

1. Check the Water Level on Receipt of your Flowers

The water level my be low for the transport of your flowers. Check the level at the back of the arrangement, a small hole in the floral foam can be found to help and add room temperature water until it is close to the top of the pot. This is best done on the sink to avoid spilling water if you over fill.

2. Leave the Stems in Place and Check Water Daily

Check the water level daily as described in step 1 and never pull a flower out of the foam and push it back in. Doing so creates an air pocket at the base of the stem, which stops the flower from drinking water and causes it to wilt almost immediately.

3. Find the Perfect Place to Display your Flowers

Display your flowers in a cool spot away from:

  • Direct sunlight: Heat causes flowers to wilt faster.
  • Drafts: Keep away from A/C, heaters, and fans.
  • Fruit bowls: Ripening fruit releases ethylene gas, aging flowers rapidly.

4. Prune as Needed

Some flower varieties naturally outlast others. As individual blooms or leaves begin to fade or wilt, gently snip them out of the arrangement to keep the rest of the design looking pristine.
