Bacteria is the biggest enemy of fresh flowers. Wash your vase thoroughly with hot, soapy water before using it. Fill the vase about two-thirds full with room-temperature water.
The flowers are wrapped with water so place the flower bouquet over a sink and remove all wrapping and the floral foam from the bottom of the stems.
Remove any foliage that will fall below the water line in your vase. Leaves left in the water will quickly rot, clouding the water and shortening the life of your blooms.
Using sharp scissors or secateurs, cut about 2 centimeters off the bottom of each stem at a sharp 45-degree angle. This prevents the stems from sitting flat and maximizes their surface area to drink.
Arrange the flowers in your vase imediately after trimming the stems to ensure they drink.

Check the water daily and add if required. Every two days, empty the vase completely, rinse it out, and refill it with fresh water. Give the stems another quick trim each time you change the water to keep them drinking freely.
